Dean was employed by the Los County Department of Charities from 1919 to 1943, and served as Supervisor in the successive Divisions of Outdoor Relief, County Welfare and Indigent Relief. The collection consists of copies of the Manzanar Free Press, the Information Bulletin published by the Japanese-American Relations Committee of the American Friends Service Committee, and various pamphlets and fliers published and/or distributed by the War Relocation Authority and various private social service agencies. The bulk of the material is sympathetic to the plight of the interned Japanese and their eventual return (resettlement) to their homes.
